Recently weather in Singapore has been getting hotter and hotter, near to the extent of "unbearable" stage. Nowadays, air conditioning in every house is a staple item, more so a necessity than a luxury. Unfortunately, in my house, only my parent's room has it, while my sister & I still endure the growing heat with only 2 fans that constantly puking out "hot air". I guess in the near future, we really need to consider getting an aircon unit fixed in our room liao. I wonder if 10, 20 years down the road, will our "little dot" still a desirable nice place to stay in? Living in this country of constant fast pace mode, competitive, no natural resources, hot and humid weather, we tend to lose our creativity and innovativeness.
I seldom see locals making an effort to dress well, probably weather is the biggest culprit, 'cos I'm guilty of this as well. All that perspiration and stickiness appear immediately within 3 mins after you have just showered in the morning. The basic instinct is to wear as little as possible, no more "layering" concept, no more mix and matching with belts and accessories, comfy is the key.
That's why I do envy other countries like Japan, Taiwan and Korea, who experience 4 seasons, such that there's always a feast to the eyes when fashion is concerned. Every people has their dress sense and style, and takes the effort of making sure they are perfect in their makeup and clothing no matter where they go. They know the simple truth that whatever they have put on in the morning, perhaps sacrificing that 1 or 2 hours of sleep, will last them through to the end of the day with confidence.
I hope we will have our own Singaporean culture in terms of fashion, with our own unique sense of dressing and style, in a positive manner, just like how we view Japan, Taiwan and Korea.
It has to start from somewhere, somebody. Provided that he/she is not being regarded as an "alien" for their so-called "creativity".
Are we able to discard our "self-consciousness"? hmmmm
